Itinerary

1st day:Rome Fiumicino - L’Aquila

Arrival of the participants at Rome Fiumicino airport and departure for L’Aquila, the city of the 99 cannelle, full of churches and palaces. Meeting with the guide and guided tour of the historical center, where the Church of San Bernardino da Siena and the Church of Santa Maria in Collemaggio are of great artistic interest. The sixteenth-century Spanish fort is, up to date, home of the National Museum of Art, with important works of painting, sculpture and archaeological finds. With a great musical tradition, the city is home to the Modern Auditorium of Renzo Piano and the the Paper Concert Hall of the Japanese architect Shigeru Ban. At the end of the visit accomodation in the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

2nd day:Gran Sasso of Italy - Santo Stefano di Sessanio

Breakfast at the hotel and departure for Gran Sasso National Park, one of the largest in Italy and with one of the richest biodiversity in Europe. After meeting with the guide, we will start a guided tour to the discovery of Corno Grande, the highest peak of the Central Apennines, and the plateau of Campo Imperatore, a charming and cultural place, also known as “the little Italian Tibet”. Walking through a panoramic street of great landscape and environmental, natural beauty we will admire natural lakes, prairies, and herds of cows and horses up to an altitude of 2130 meters. Along the way it will be possible to stop and capture the beauty of the landscape with photos. Visit to the hotel where Mussilini was imprisoned during the Second World War. Free lunch provided by the participants.
In the afternoon we will arrive in Santo Stefano di Sessanio, an architectural jewel of the medieval era, entirely preserved and perfectly inserted in the surrounding landscape. Guide tour of the historical center, through the Porta Medicea, gateway to a world that seems to have stopped hundreds of years ago, among intersecting alleys, porches, stone houses, arches and craft shops. Visit of the Medici Tower of the 14th century, symbol of the village, which served as a watchtower. At the end of the visit, hotel accomodation, dinner and overnight stay.

3rd day:Stiffe Caves - Bominaco - Piana di Navelli

Breakfast at the hotel and departure for Stiffe Caves, one of the most important karst phenomena in central Italy, characterized by a perennial underground stream, that gives the visitor suggestive visual and sound effects, produced by the water: stalactites and stalagmites, among impetuous rapids, waterfalls and ponds in a grandiose environment. Free lunch provided by the participants,
In the afternoon we will arrive in Bominaco for an incredible guided tour of the elegant Santa Maria Assunta Abbey and the cycle of frescoes kept inside the Pellegrino Oratory, one of the most beautiful of the region, so much that is has been renamed the “Sistine Chapel of Abruzzo”. A soul place, simple and refined, full of romanticism and spirituality. Then we will pass through the village of Piana di Navelli, known for the saffron production, characterized by the intense color, the aromatic scent and the numerous beneficial properties for the health.

4th day:Sulmona - Pacentro

Breakfast at the hotel and departure for Sulmona, the “City of Confetti”, known for the tasty pralines produced here since the Middle Ages. Guided tour of the historical center and of the Basilica of San Panfilo, Corso Ovidio with its shops of confetti and the wonderful Palace of Annunziata, with the adjoining church. Free lunch provided by the participants.
Then we will arrive in Pacentro,an extraordinary panoramic balcony over the Peligna Valley and immersed in the Majella National Park. Guided tour of the historic center characterized by well-kept streets, alleys, stone houses and the castle Caldora that belonged to the famous Molise leader. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

5th day:Sagittarius Valley - Scanno - Barrea

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for Scanno along one of the most amazing roads of Abruzzo, overlooking the Sagittarius Gorges: spectacular canyon carved by the millennial erosion of the impetuous waters of the river of the same name, today a regional nature reserve. Full day dedicated to the guided tour of Scanno and Barrea, two fabulous villages of Abruzzo characterized by homonymous lakes and wonderful historic centers with important churches, palaces and beautiful landscapes in the heart of the National Park of Abruzzo. Free lunch provided by the participants. Dinner and overnight in the hotel.

6th day:Pietrabbondante - Agnone

Breakfast at the hotel and departure for Molise, for an original guided tour of the village and the Sannita Theater of Pietrabbondante, wonderful stone theater characterized by anatomical seats, molded in the second century B.C., religious and political fulcrum of the proud Samnite people. Lunch in a restaurant with a typical menu.
In the afternoon we will arrive in Agnone, “the village of the bells”. Guided tour of the historic center and the “Pontificia Fonderia di Campane Marinelli”, the oldest bell foundry in the world, for a unique experience that will allow you to enter in the decoration room, the place where crafts become art, to assist firsthand to the great attention that is given to the aesthetic result. At the end of the visit departure for the return to the hotel in Rome.

7th day:Castel San Vincenzo - Fornelli

Breakfast at the hotel and departure for Castel San Vincenzo, an enchanting Molise village, rich in history and culture surrounded by the emerald lake of the same name. Guided tour of the ancient Benedictine abbey, one of the most important archaeological sites in Europe about the Middle Ages, and the new abbey, where you will be fascinated by the incredible view of the arches that push the visitor’s eye on the beautiful abbey. Free lunch provided by the participants. In the afternoon a guided tour of Fornelli, a charming medieval village in the Molise hinterland, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. At the end of the visit, hotel accommodation, dinner and overnight stay.

8th day: Venafro - Rome Fiumicino

Breakfast at the hotel and departure for Venafro, “the Door of Molise”. Guided tour of the historic center to discover the artistic and historical beauties of the village: the Pandone Castle, a manor decorated inside with sixteenth-century paintings depicting the best horses of the breeding of Henry III Pandone, Count of Venafro, which houses the National Museum of Molise, the many churches and the charming Palazzina Liberty overlooking a lovely lake. Free lunch provided by the participants.
Then we will continue toward the airport of Rome Fiumicino, for the return of the participants.
