Between Sant’Elena Sannita and Frosolone there was a complementarity of work: in Frosolone they worked the Sharp irons – knoves, razors, bill hooks, scalpels -, while in Sant’Elena Sannita the Sharpeners sharpened the worn blades. The sharpeners of Sant’Elena Sannita went from town to town, aboard a trycicle equipped, to offer their services. Many tried to find the fortune in Rome, where they became famous. From sharpening razors they moved on to selling them in small stores, whose windows displayed shaving brushes next to the razors, and then shaving creams and lotions, pots of brilliantine, and then perfumes. Over time they became managers of perfumeries better and better equipped. Today two hundred perfumeries in Rome belong to people from Sant’Elena Sannita. The Museum of Perfume set up in Sant’Elena wants to be a tribute and a recognition to those who have moved away from their land to work and slowly established themselves as perfumers.
